Characteristics : The pesto is a condiment or typical sauce originating in Liguria. Its main ingredient is basil. Pine nuts and garlic are ground, all seasoned with grana padano cheese, sheep cheese and olive oil. It is used for pasta, as an appetizer on bread and is also fabulous as a pizza base instead of the traditional tomato sauce.
